Evan Tucker of Evan’s Snack Cabinet
At twelve years old, many of us were watching cartoons, playing video games or heading to the local corner store to stuff our faces with candy. The last thing most of us were even thinking about was starting a business and trying to build an empire. Twelve year old Evan Tucker of Wilson, North Carolina is spending his summer filling orders and shipping boxes of gourmet popcorn and nuts to his customers all across the country. Evan is the proud owner of Evan’s Snack Cabinet, an online business he started with the help of his mother Tasharra.
Evan has been developing his work ethic since the age of three, thanks to his loving and devoted mother. His mother being a businesswoman herself started having Evan sweep up in her neighborhood beauty shop and do other minor tasks to instill a work ethic in him. At the age of six Evan started selling snow cones during the summer months outside of his mother’s salon. From age six to present she began to teach him how to provide great customer service, how to upsell, give back change, tithe, save, and spend his earnings wisely. As Evan has gotten older he would help his mother set up and sell at events and trade shows. He has also helped work in a family health and wellness store with running the register, pricing items, restocking shelves, and making smoothies.
Evan knows the one thing any successful businessman knows; when possible, do something you know and love. Evan knows and loves gourmet popcorn! So, one day (after playing Fortnite) Evan went to his mother and told her that he wanted to start his own gourmet popcorn company. After some research and due diligence, Evan’s Snack Cabinet was born! Evan’s Snack Cabinet provides delicious mouth-watering gourmet popcorn along with addictive candied, cinnamon glazed, and brown sugar bourbon nuts. So far his business has been a runaway success both locally and online due to his winning smile, confidence, shrewd business mind, and strong support system! During these unsettling times after the death of George Floyd and countless others, it is wonderful and refreshing to hear of tremendous strides and achievements being made in the African American community. Young people like Evan are indeed the future, and in order for them to have a chance to grow and flourish, we must encourage, nurture and cultivate these young ambitious minds.
